Munas and Collegial Forum APTIPI 2025 Establish New Directions for Library, Information Science, and Archival Education in Indonesia
Jatinangor, October 31, 2025 — The Indonesian Association of Higher Education Providers in Library and Information Science (APTIPI Indonesia) successfully held its Musyawarah Nasional (MUNAS) and Collegial Forum 2025 at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor, Bandung. Carrying the theme “The Development of Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Studies in Indonesia: Integration of Curriculum, Nomenclature, Learning Outcomes, and Accreditation,” the event brought together heads of study programs, academics, researchers, higher education administrators, and representatives of professional associations from universities across Indonesia.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, S.Sos., S.H., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of collaboration among higher education institutions in responding to the evolving landscape of higher education, digital transformation, and quality-based accreditation systems.
In his opening remarks, Muhamad Prabu Wibowo, S.Hum., M.S., Ph.D., Chair of APTIPI Indonesia for the 2024–2027 term, stated that MUNAS APTIPI 2025 represented an important milestone for aligning the future direction of Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Education in Indonesia. He highlighted that rapid developments in information technology, artificial intelligence, digital data ecosystems, and changing workforce demands require higher education institutions to continuously refine curricula, learning outcomes, and disciplinary identities to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
The seminar sessions provided participants with valuable insights into the development of accreditation systems through Indonesia’s Independent Accreditation Agencies (Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri/LAM). The first session featured Prof. Dr. Drs. Jonner Hasugian, M.Si. from LAMHUM and Dr. Rd. Hj. Funny Mustikasari Elita, M.Si. from LAMSPAK. Both speakers discussed recent accreditation policies, challenges in meeting quality assurance standards, and strategies that Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Studies programs should adopt to navigate an increasingly competitive and outcome-based accreditation environment.
The second session focused on the future development of national curricula. Distinguished speakers Prof. Dr. Laksmi, S.S., M.A. from Universitas Indonesia and Prof. Dr. Dr. Rahman Mulyawan, Drs., M.Si. from Universitas Padjadjaran explored the need for a national curriculum roadmap that responds to developments in artificial intelligence, data governance, digital information management, electronic records administration, and the strengthening of graduate competencies aligned with societal and industry needs.
Beyond the seminar sessions, MUNAS APTIPI 2025 produced a series of strategic decisions through plenary meetings and commission discussions. APTIPI’s eight commissions developed recommendations and policy documents covering organizational development, education, research, community engagement, human resource development, partnerships, quality assurance, and academic collaboration.
One of the most significant outcomes of the forum was the formulation of National Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) for Diploma, Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral programs in Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Studies. These agreements represent an important step toward the harmonization of national curricula and provide a common academic framework for APTIPI member institutions throughout Indonesia.
The forum also endorsed the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital transformation, distance learning, data literacy, and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles into future curriculum development. Participants further discussed strategies for strengthening collaborative research initiatives, joint scholarly publications, expanding the number of accreditation assessors, supporting faculty career development, and enhancing both national and international partnerships.
During the Collegial Forum, participants examined the ongoing evolution of academic program nomenclature, reflecting the transition from traditional Library Science programs toward Information Science, Records and Archives Management, and other interdisciplinary information-related fields. This discussion formed part of APTIPI’s broader effort to respond to emerging professional demands and new developments in knowledge and practice.
As a national collaborative platform, APTIPI also strengthened its organizational identity through the adoption of an official APTIPI slogan and greeting gesture, collectively endorsed by participants during the assembly. The newly adopted symbol is expected to represent the organization’s spirit of collaboration, solidarity, and academic networking among its members nationwide.
The event was further enriched by a Research Poster Exhibition, showcasing research findings, innovations, and best practices from lecturers and researchers in Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Studies. The exhibition served as a valuable networking platform, facilitating the exchange of ideas and fostering opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration.
Through the Musyawarah Nasional (MUNAS) and Collegial Forum 2025, APTIPI reaffirmed its commitment to serving as Indonesia’s leading coordinating body for advancing higher education quality, strengthening research capacity, supporting professional development, and promoting curriculum harmonization in the fields of Library Science, Information Science, and Archival Studies.
The complete proceedings, commission reports, seminar materials, recommendations, and official resolutions of MUNAS APTIPI 2025 will be distributed to all member institutions and will serve as the foundation for implementing APTIPI’s organizational programs during the 2024–2027 period.
